The Boston design is unique to Deering and provides you with a top quality banjo at an affordable price. This banjo has had Deering factory fitted planetary tuners when it was made. “The Boston has quite a history behind it. When we started out to build Deering Banjos, the very first banjo we made was called the Intermediate and the basic guts of that banjo was a relatively new concept - a steel rim. Steel has good weight and a very good ring for a banjo that is made in a little bit of a lower price range.
When we first started making it, Janet and I would go to a local bluegrass club, and when we would get out of the car we could always hear one banjo all the way across the parking lot. We noticed that almost every time it was a Boston. That steel rim has a really good clarity of tone. It carries really well and will project beyond banjos that cost much more.
We call it the Boston because of the banjo heritage of the city of Boston. Over a hundred years ago the whole Mecca of banjo manufacturing was centered around the city of Boston.” - Greg Deering
Uniquely Deering, The Boston banjo breaks with tradition and provides a professional quality sound at a lower price point by creating the drum from 3/16″ rolled steel which rings like a tone ring and upgrading the accuracy of tuning with guitar style tuners with a higher gear ratio. The uniquely Deering inlay pattern gives you visual beauty enhancing the great performance.
The Boston has an adjustable mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard and mother-of-pearl dot inlays and is satin finished. The Boston is fitted with a 24 piece flange and a mahogany resonator.
