The MT O combines Collings' affordable satin finish and simplified appointments with the same quality construction and tone woods as their fully-appointed A-style models. With a fully carved Engelmann spruce top and maple back and sides, the MT O produces a rich, woody tone that one would expect from a professional quality mandolin. The oval sound hole accentuates the bass and low mid response while providing a warm, open tonality that is rich in overtones.

Description
Mandolin Top Voicing
From the starting point of the wood's density and rigidity, each mandolin top is hand selected, evaluated, and carved to its own unique thickness; maximizing the tonal potential of each top. An Engelmann spruce top provides a warm, overtone rich sound with rich highs and excellent responsiveness.
Premium Tonewoods
Each Collings mandolin, from the most affordable model to the highest end, are built with the finest tonewoods available. Each wood is acquired, acclimated, and hand selected by master luthiers who pick each component with the whole tonality of the end instrument in mind.
Playability
A combination of exacting PLEK machine leveling and hand fret dressing ensure a comfortable setup and silky fret feel. A compound 7-11 5/8 fingerboard radius, V shaped neck profile, and 1 9/16 inch string spacing creates an exceptional playability that is versatile for a wide range of styles.
Our nitrocellulose lacquer satin finish provides an excellent combination of flexibility, protection and affordability. While less labor intensive than our full gloss finishes, the satin finish allows the rich, full tone of the instrument to come through and creates a unique patina.
Hardware
Each mandolin bridge and pickguard are handmade of solid ebony in the Collings shop. The tailpieces offer convenient top loading and are made of bronze to enhance string resonance. Gotoh tuners provide a smooth tuning feel and reliable operation.
Appointments
The Collings MT features a single bound top and mother of pearl dot inlays. This basic aesthetic is designed to accentuate the simplified yet tasteful configuration of the MT model.
Sound-hole
An oval sound-hole is paired with X-style bracing to create a warm, open tonal response with rich overtones and an enhanced presence in the bass and low mids. A wide 1 3/16 inch nut and 13 fret neck join further distinguish the feel and tone of our oval hole mandolins from their F-style counterparts.
