Description
The Weissenborn Style 3 was offered throughout the 1920’s and in to the 30’s.
Taken from the Tonk brothers Co catalogue from the late 1920’s the Style three is described as: “Entire body-top, bottom and side- made for specally selected beautifully marked genuine Koa. Fingerboard of specially selected Koa with extra fancy position marks and fretted with white holly. Edges of top of body, also finger-board and soundhole, surrounded with rope binding. Beautiful finish hand rubbed to a high gloss thoughout. Body depth 3 inches”
The Style 3 has been patterned from a beautiful and near mint circa 1927 Style 3 from our collection of originals. Every detail has been captured to ensure an absolute true recreation. Being built in the same way as the originals has meant our instruments have a lightweight feel yet are still strong.
As is correct for this period, full hot hide glue is used across the construction. We build using only the finest old grown and slow dried Koa wood, and then finished using a hand rubbed nitrocellulose lacquer. Every attention to detail has been taken to authentically replicate a immaculate vintage instrument in look, feel and tone.
As the original Style 3’s were, our Style 3 is constructed using a specially selected, beautifully marked Koa. If you would prefer even more figured grain prices are also available for a master grain “extra Special” option for your build.
