Description
Winner of the TG4 Young Musician of the Year award in 1999, Aogán is recognised as one of the new generation of Irish concertina players exploring the traditional boundaries of the instrument. He is a member of the group Slide who is described by The Irish Times as "a powerhouse quartet of traditional musicians", was selected as Irish Music Magazine's best newcomers in 2001 and received Music Network's coveted Young Musicwide Award in 2005. The group's new and third album Overneath was released in spring 2007. Aogán has also recorded with fiddle player Michelle O'Brien and his cousin, guitarist Gavin Ralston; their album was described by Irish Music Magazine as having "sparks of pure genius" and featured in the Irish Echo's 2003 top 20 listing of Irish traditional releases. Aogán is also featured on Waterboy fiddler Steve Wickham's solo fiddle album Geronimo.
