The Deering Goodtime 'Rare Bird Alert' banjo is a celebration of Steve Martin's music. The logo was inspired by the cover of Steve Martin’s Grammy nominated CD, Rare Bird Alert. There is a unique peghead design of a bird with wings open wide playing a banjo plus the words “Rare Bird Alert.” The fingerboard has hardwood, bow tie inlays and the banjo is made in a natural colour with a satin finish. The banjo is crafted out of Eastern American maple. The heart of this banjo is the Three Ply Solid Violin Maple rim that provides you with stability and the great authentic American 'banjo' sound. The Deering Goodtime 'Rare Bird Alert'  specification:

The Three Ply violin maple rim is built from solid red violin maple (as used on pre-war classic Mastertone banjos)... The rim diameter is 279.40mm (11”) and a thickness of 14.28mm (9/16”). The solid violin maple rim also acts as the tone ring and produces a bright, clear ‘warm’ sound. 16 bracket hooks are fitted to give even tension on the tension hoop. The tailpiece is a Deering ‘Quiet’ type that accepts loop-ended string. All metal work is nickel plated to a high standard. A milky 11” diameter ‘Deering’ plastic head is fitted (top side coated) along with an ebony tipped 15.87mm (5/8”) maple bridge. The violin maple rim is natural satin finished.

The neck is constructed from solid rock maple. The 22-fret fingerboard is inlaid with exotic Hardwood Bow Tie inlays at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th, 15th, 17th, and 19th frets. The nickel silver fretwork is perfectly positioned, rounded and polished for smooth playing.
The geared 5th string tuner is adjacent the 5th fret. The nut is precisely cut and filed for a comfortable string action at the first position. The 5th string tuning peg has a screw to adjust the torque for positive tuning. The Traditional Shaped Banjo Peg Head (headstock) is finished in natural satin maple. The name ‘Goodtime’ is Engraved along with 'The Rare Bird Alert’ Script Logo with the following inscription 'Made with Pride In USA’. A set of Die Cast Enclosed Geared tuners are fitted. I love this banjo! First gig with it next week... Can't wait! I would recommend this banjo to anyone wanting a step up from their first banjo! The build quality is excellent and feels like a solid instrument. Great fun to play!
