Ozark - 2243 'Maple' Flatback Bouzouki

The originals of this bouzouki were built in Japan and were known as ‘Trinity College’ instruments. In efforts to combat production costs, many of the early Japanese manufacturers have now moved production to Korea and China. Modern machinery and production quality control secures the build of the instrument that is then hand finished. The normal chosen tuning for the 'Irish' bouzouki is G, D, A., E or G, D, A, D The Body Assembly… The back and sides are built from solid maple, then stained an attractive brown to resemble dark mahogany, the lower bout of the body measures 349mm (13.75”) cream binding protects the front and back joints. The depth of the body is 108mm (4.25”). The soundboard (top) is built from selected close grain solid spruce and has a black/white rosette around the sound-hole. It has a round sound-hole. A fixed height rosewood bridge with a compensated saddle is fitted to the soundboard for maximum transmission of sound. The chrome-plated ‘A’ style plate-type tailpiece has an engraved slide off cover and is designed to accept loop end strings. A strap button is fixed in the centre of the tailpiece. The Neck Assembly… The maple neck is stained dark brown to match the body; it has an internally fitted adjustable truss rod. The rosewood fingerboard is fitted with twenty five nickel silver frets precisely positioned, honed and polished. Pearl dot markers are inlaid at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th & 15th frets …small side position marker dots are inlaid in the side of the fingerboard at the same positions. The fingerboard is fully bound to match the body. The nut is precisely cut to give a low action at the first position. The black finished ‘snake-head’ shape headstock is inlaid with an abalone pearl ‘Ozark’ script insignia. The bell shape truss rod cover is black/white plastic. A set of chrome buttoned high-precision geared die cast tuners are fitted for positive, trouble free tuning.
