Patrick James Eggle built his first guitar at the age of fifteen as a school project. By the time it was complete, he was already dissatisfied with the results and decided to pull it apart and start again from scratch. So started a lifelong obsession.
In the 24 years since, Patrick has gained wide experience of designing, building and repairing all types and styles of guitar. In the early nineties he ran guitar production at the company in Coventry England, which also bore his name.
By 1995, the work of organizing large scale production of solid body guitars, had lost its appeal and he left the company to work alone, filling his time with repairs and building bespoke instruments of many styles.
Although Patrick was well known in America for his high end Archtop guitars, he wanted to fanfare the new flattop acoustic models he had designed. With this in mind Patrick, his wife and young sons moved to a new home and workshops in North Carolina on a two year mission to market the Eggle name and set up bespoke dealerships in strategic locations throughout the US.
He quickly gained a reputation in America amongst collectors and players for uncompromising quality and tasteful design. Now his guitars are stocked by world renowned dealers such as Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, Tennessee and Gryphon instruments in Palo Alto, California, amongst many others. In fact, over 60% of Patrick's total output ships now direct to the US.
Following the success, Patrick and the family returned to England and opened large new purpose built workshops in Oswestry. All design and production is now completed in this beautiful area of Shropshire.
His commitment to producing guitars of the very highest quality and playability is greater than ever. He just doesn't pull them apart anymore - well...not too often!
Patrick often gets asked the question ...'How did you ever get into building guitars Patrick?
Here is Patrick's answer ...THAT question again. I am asked this one probably more than any other and the truth is that since the age of 12 guitars have been my obsession. It didn't take too long to realise that making and not playing was where my real talents lay and after around 10,000 guitars and 25 years of sawing, sanding, scraping, drilling, filling, ripping up, wiring up, and stringing up, I can safely say that I know how to put a guitar together. Guitarists around the world agree.
Patrick Eggle.
