The Celtic Harp or 'clarsach' has strong historical connections with Ireland, Scotland and Wales and can be traced back as far as the 10th century ...it is in fact the national symbol of Ireland, the shape of which is taken from the 'Trinity College Harp', one of Ireland's national treasures. You will even find the symbol on your pint of Guinness! The harp has evolved over the centuries from a simple gut strung instrument to the wire strung Gaelic clarsach popular in Ireland and Scotland. Harps dating back to the 15th century can still be found in Ireland and Scotland. The blind Irish folk harpist Turlough Carolan wrote scores of harp tunes during his lifetime (1670-1738) many of these tunes were collected by Edward Bunting in the late 18th century and can be found in modern publications of Celtic music collections. Our 'Mid East' Celtic knee harp is an excellent value harp and ideal for getting you into playing this beautiful traditional music.
The Appalachian Dulcimer and Autoharp are harp like sounding instruments in their own right, both of which can be played in a simple but impressive manner or to a high level of musical skill. At Eagle Music Shop we have tuition material for all this family of instruments to help you from the absolute beginner stage through to competent musician.
