A deluxe but affordable hand built mandolin from Britains world class luthier Phil Davidson. One of the finest hand built mandolin in our listings. The Phil Davidson ‘Lacewood’ Mandolin is built to a high specification from the best quality hand selected timbers.The 'Lacewood' mandolin is braced and toned with the secrets of a master builder ... The volume & tone of this instrument is loud, bright and clear coupled with a warm but powerful sound. A pleasure to play ... Quality Gotoh plate geared tuners enhances the balance and feel of this quality mandolin.

The Body Assembly… The back and sides are built from solid hand selected lacewood, the back of the body measures 260mm (10.25”) x 340mm (13.375” attractive maple-wood binding and black and white purfling protects the front and back joints. The depth of the body is 51mm (2”). The carefully selected soundboard (top) is built from solid Norway spruce. A fixed height rosewood bridge with a ‘Corian’ compensated saddle is fitted to the soundboard for maximum transmission of sound. The tailpiece is an 'A' style nickel plated type with slide off cover, it is designed to accept loop end strings.

Neck Assembly… The solid maple neck is precisely profiled for ease of playing; it has an internally fitted adjustable truss rod. The rosewood fingerboard is fitted with seventeen nickel silver frets precisely positioned, honed and polished. Pearl dot markers are inlaid at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th & 15th frets …small cream side position marker dots are inlaid in the side of the rosewood fingerboard at the same positions.

The fingerboard has a fast smooth action. The precisely cut nut is made from natural bone. The ‘snake-head’ shape headstock is faced with rosewood and inlaid with a mother of pearl Davidson ‘D’ and ‘leaf’ insignia. The oval truss rod cover is hand crafted from rosewood. A set of Gotoh precision geared plate tuners are fitted for positive, trouble free tuning. Finish: Natural satin
